During my training as a Licensed Practical Nurse, I studied child development and learned that there is so much more to feeding a baby and changing its diaper; the emotional connection and trust that is formed while feeding an infant is priceless. Trust is formed as an infant’s needs are met. The position of the bottle and how you hold the infant are equally important. I also learned more about childhood illnesses and that the implementation of daily healthy practices can prevent most of these illnesses.

 

After 19 years of private duty nursing, I realized that the specialty of newborn care was not being given the amount of support as necessary, but was very much needed.
